"Piney Branch Way"
       by Thomas Juzwiak

“Piney Branch Way” is a march written in a modified ABA form. As with any traditional march, articulation is going to be the key to a clean, nice performance. The challenge is in the back and forth staccato and tenuto markings throughout the piece. Other than some dotted 8th – 16th rhythms the song is straight forward. The ranges for the instruments are conservative. The 1st Clarinet stays below the break and the 1st Trumpet does not go higher than a “C”. A short question and answer section will keep the woodwinds and brass on their toes. “Piney Branch Way” can be used as an opener or works placed anywhere in a program. The students will enjoy playing this one.
